Owly ImagesLeonard Nimoy at a dinner honoring Floyd Abrams at the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism on May 16th, 2011. (Found by Grace. You're amazing!) His attendence appears to have been a (mostly) well kept secret, as I've found no other mentioning of it so far.

MSN Switzerland presents a page called "Starlounge" where they propose to show current pictures of (ex)celebrities and pose the question if you would recognize them. The quiz' motto is "In the spotlight in the past, not recognized today?"

For Mr. Nimoy they give this cue: "Gray jacket, black baseball cap, slightly tinted sunglasses. That's how this film and TV star walked around the airport in Los Angeles. Do you recognize him? A little hint: his character was flying around a lot, too..."

Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner at Vancouver Airport after appearing at the Creation Convention in 2010. There is a totally subjective account by an autograph collector here, who ends with "Thank you for coming to town Leonard Nimoy. Thank you for leaving town Billy."

Leonard Nimoy and William shatner leaving after a Star Trek convention
07/09/2010

A couple weeks ago the city of Vancouver hosted a Star Trek Convention.

Headlining the event was probably the two largest stars the franchise has. Leonard Nimoy & William Shatner.

Nimoy, who is more recently known for his work as Dr. William Bell on the hit sci-fi show Fringe, is no stranger to Vancouver. He has made several trips up here to work on the show that he was recently killed off on.

Shatner has also spent some time in the city over the years.

When they showed up to the airport to leave town after their event, they were polar opposites. Nimoy took the time to sign for the multiple people waiting for him there, was talkative & personable.

(...)

Seeing him & Mr. Nimoy at the same time, seeing how they both dealt with the requests from fans & dealers alike in two completely opposite ways made me appreciate Mr. Nimoy a bit more.

What would be the last place you'd expect to spot Leonard Nimoy? Right, a fashion show. But here he is (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2009). And he is a repeat offender, too! (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2010)

This Croatian website has a photo (click "Galerija") of Leonard Nimoy probably on his way to a Obama fundraiser? Maybe even the infamous one in Chicago where Obama flashed him the Vulcan salute that is talked about in the article above, and demonstrated by Obama, at the 2009 Radio and TV Correspondents' Dinner?

I had heard terrible things about him all around. He was unfriendly, he was a bad signer, blah blah blah. So I was prepared for the worst. I expected him to shoot me down. While he didnt put his arms out to hug me & embrace my presence at his hotel, Mr. Nimoy was willing to accomodate my quick autograph request before he was rushed away into an awaiting production vehicle.

I was plaeased to see that all the things I had been told seem to be either fabricated or outright wrong. Of course, we'll see if hes still as accomodating when he sees me for a 2nd or 3rd time.

To read about how that turned out and see some photos go here.

Celebrity Dog Watcher caught him in Vancouver: (...)"And when in Vancouver, he does as the other celebs do when they’re visiting the beautiful city: they find Tika the Poodle and have themselves photographed with her!"(...)

Winnipeg Sun: "Montreal's William Shatner -- together with longtime Star Trek buddy Leonard Nimoy -- among hundreds of guests listening in quiet rapture as Gustavo Dudamel, the new music director of the L.A. Philharmonic, conducted Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1 under the stars on the roof of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Although the 78-year-old Shatner has admitted hearing problems, he seemed to hear and enjoy every note." There is another report with pictures of the 2008 event at the Orange County Register

Nimoy drops in on retirement bash

Wright State University President Kim Goldenberg received a surprise at his retirement bash in Dayton, Ohio - a visit from Mr. Spock of "Star Trek," aka actor Leonard Nimoy.

Nimoy greeted Goldenberg with the Vulcan salute, usually paired with the well-wishing, "Live long and prosper."

Goldenberg, 59, said he and his wife, Shelley, are Trekkies.

"We don't collect the paraphernalia and all that," he said. "We like the show for its philosophies."

Goldenberg will retire Jan. 31 after nine years as president of Wright State.

About 200 people attended the celebration Thursday night at the Dayton Art Institute.

Nimoy, 75, starred in the original "Star Trek" TV series, which ran from 1966-69, and in numerous "Star Trek" movies.

Here's a lovely photo from the time Mr. Nimoy premiered his Shekhina project.

The New York Daily News included a picture of Mr. Nimoy in their "On the sets of New York" photo album. Flip through it for Leonard Nimoy because the picture's position changes as they add new photos to it. The caption reads: "Leonard Nimoy gives Farrah Fawcett direction on the set of a romantic comedy in 1990." Mr. Nimoy himself also posted it on his Twitter account.

In October I first posted a picture from the program book of the 50th Detroit Autorama. It dates the picture to 1975. I found another on Flicker, dating it to another time and auto show in Chicago. I wrote to "Hello Chicago" asking if he had more information that would help solve the mystery and while Steve couldn't locate the program book anymore, he was so very kind to scan the first picture anew and add another. A big THANK YOU, Steve.

Snapshot of Leonard Nimoy by Tim Boxer at 15 Minutes Magazine. (more/close)

THE sexy sixties, swinging seventies and dissipated eighties brought the glamorous superstars of Hollywood and Vine to Babylon by the Hudson. Tim Boxer was on the scene to interview and photograph the icons of an era of sex, drugs and rock and roll. As assistant and ghostwriter to fabled New York Post gossip columnist Earl Wilson, Tim covered the glitterati at film premieres, Broadway opening nights and a sophisticated nightclub landscape that is now history.

Tim was armed with a notebook and two cameras. With his Nikon he photographed the major showbiz names, which were published in Time, Newsweek, People, Life, and books and magazines around the globe. He captured Mafioso Joe Gallo cutting his wedding cake, a world exclusive shot that appeared on the front page of The New York Times, New York Post and Daily News—on the same day!

With a Polaroid he made instant candids of celebrities. And all readily signed their one-of-a-kind portraits.
