Leonard Nimoy Reprises Legendary Role of 'Spock' in Star Trek(TM) Online

NEW YORK, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Atari, Inc., one of the world's most recognized videogame publishers, and acclaimed MMO developer Cryptic Studios(TM), announced today that Leonard Nimoy, the actor who originated the legendary and beloved Star Trek character of Spock more than 40 years ago, has joined the cast of Star Trek Online, the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) ever set in the Star Trek universe.
Nimoy, who recently reprised his role as Spock in 2009's Star Trek movie, will voice the introduction for Star Trek Online. Nimoy's voice, known to millions of fans all over the world, will also be heard during key scenes and events in-game.

Nimoy received multiple Emmy nominations for his portrayal of Spock during the original run of Star Trek in the late 1960s. Besides his on-screen roles in six Star Trek feature films, he directed Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and helped write Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He has also appeared as Spock in Star Trek: The Next Generation and most recently, starred as Spock in J.J. Abrams's film Star Trek.

Nimoy joins Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in the J.J. Abrams-helmed Star Trek theatrical relaunch of the franchise, released in May. Quinto will voice the game's tutorial while Nimoy will deliver the game's introduction and he will also be heard during key scenes and in-game events.

The game takes place in 2409, about 30 years after the events in the film Star Trek: Nemesis. Time travel-themed missions will result in the player encountering characters of Star Trek's past.

Star Trek Online - Trivia
Probably due to likeness rights, none of the actors from any of the five Star Trek shows and eleven films make a physical appearance in Star Trek Online. However, several characters who appeared as infants and young children do. Some include:
Kirayoshi O'Brien, the infant son of Miles O'Brien from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Now grown and working for Starfleet at Memory Alpha.
Naomi Wildman, the young child from Star Trek: Voyager. Now commanding Deepspace K7.
Miral Paris, the daughter of Tom Paris and B'Elanna Torres from Star Trek Voyager. Now a Security Chief aboard the U.S.S. Kirk.
It should be noted however, that Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto do appear as Spock, but in voice only.
